Fay & Robert’s School

Regular price £0.00 £0.00 Unit price per

This piece was an epic undertaking to design, master & finish along side Fay & Robert. After a visit to our gallery and viewing the selection we had on the gallery walls at the time,Fay & Robert decided on Blue, Yellow, Green & Orange colours to combine with the larger green & yellow fish (kingfish) which was to be included some where in the school.

We have included 4 different smaller sized fish with the school along side the larger kingi.

Large Sardine/Mullet length 255mm.                            Turning Large Sardine/Mullet 270mm                                       Small Sardine/Mullet  217mm
As always when people ask us what kind of fish they are we love to leave the door open and say it’s all in the eye of the beholder!! 😉🎣👍

We have coloured these with our airbrushing skills along the top of their bodies using a translucent blue. Darker tones on top then fading down to a lighter blue. Fluorescent white is added under the blue to create the fish scales you see from eye to tail. From the blue line down we have left the bright silver of the stainless on display. This really shows what we can achieve with the grinders in terms of texture and movement. On some fish we have flipped the grinder on its edge to create strips vertically, to mirror looking through the water at them and giving more Jiwa detail to the piece. To add that bit more something 👌we have airbrushed the tips of the tail & the two bottom fins with yellow & green. A very subtle way to bring in more colour. Once lacquered they develop a really rich, dark, deep clean colour feel and the stainless becomes soooo shiny and crisp.

Also used are our

Bait Fish Mackerel/Hearings Length 154mm

They are smaller then the Sardines/Mullet and gives a great contrast to the piece. Again Janine has airbrushed the colour patterns, this time using Orange & Yellow tones. We both really like adding different fish markings on all the fish we do, so once again the white fluorescent paint has been added first, Naturally in a different pattern to the mullet/sardines to give them their own special character. We call this design our tiger stripes which is fast becoming a favourite with us and our customers. We have Coloured them across the top of their bodies and gone with the full tail paint job. Orange tips with yellow filling in the rest. The bottom half of the body has been done with our Jiwa grinding style/skills. We went with a wavey pattern to helping give the overall look of the piece a natural flowing & graceful look.
The different sized fish swim seamlessly together creating  an elegantly looking LARGER school/shoal of fish.
The idea to add the large kingfish within the school we owe to Fay & Robert. We will definitely be using this idea as we move forward always evolving. Thanks guys 👍😊
The technique involved in mounting a larger fish within a school is very different to our standard process, along with the placement of fish on and around it. This takes a while to  get everything lined up and looking 👌from an artist’s point of view. We as artists really put ourselves in the customers eyes at this point and feel their perception of the piece with Hugh anticipation & a really heavy desire to get it right. Really wanting to get the best results & outcome possibly to put that smile on their faces and feel truly satisfied with what we have been able to create for them.

If you have a large wall then this piece is definitely worth checking out. All cut from 316 Marnie grade stainless. Large chain on the back makes this piece easy to set up on our wall, the way you like to see the school swimming with the ability to tilt it one way or another. Once you have found the desired look, we have a tack point at each end to hold it in position. Looks great as a stand alone school but even better teamed up with some of our single fish. Definitely creates a scene this piece.                                                           Dimensions are approximately
