School on the move
This piece show cases the scale of length we are able to achieve, 2.7 meters in this case. Lots of different grinding detail has gone into this one. This really helps with light reflection along with giving it a sense of water displacement on each fish. We installed this one on a concrete wall and didn’t want the colour to over power it’s environment. As you can see we have gone with mostly silver from the stainless. This is really shiny once we apply the lacquer. Then we incorporated 2 tones of blue, with hints on the tails and fins of the fish. The eye has also been coloured blue with paua shell pieces included. We used our rounder shaped sardine or mullet species for the larger fish. These have been ground in two different ways. The first flowing with the water length ways along their body’s, the second lot we have flipped the grinder up and added lines from top to bottom along the fillet line of their body’s. Adding 20 smaller bait fish to this piece has made all the difference with the over all appearance of the school. It’s a great little trick for fill spots as well as adding more movement between fish.
All made from 316 Marnie grade stainless steel then coated with lacquer for protection and shine. Hanging is via a chain on the back with to additional tack points at each end. As always can be made to suit. Colour, size & shape.
